Lieut. Robert Wintle Innes, R.N.
This officer entered the Navy as a First Class Volunteer on 21st April 1807 on board the FAVORITE
sloop, Capts. John Nairne and Fred. Hoffman. Employed at first off the coast of Africa, and then in the West Indies, where he accompanied Capt. Hoffman into the GOELAN 18. Proceeding in 1808 to the East Indies in the CORNELIA frigate, Capt. Henry Folkes Edgell, he there in 1810-11, served on shore, as Midshipman, at the taking of the Isle of France, and similarly assisted at the storming of Fort Cornelis during the operations connected with the reduction of Java.
He returned home in 1812 with Capt. Edgell on board the PIEDMONTAISE 38; and on 6th December 1813 after he had further served on the Home station in the THISBE 28, Capt. Thos. Dick, and SAN JOSEF and QUEEN CHARLOTTE flag-ships of Lord Keith and Sir Pulteney Malcolm, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
His subsequent appointments were:
- 22nd February 1814, to the HARRIER 18, Capts. Andrew Pellet Green, John Forbes and Sir Chas. Thos. Jones, employed off the Canary Islands.
- In 1815, to the RIFLEMAN 18, Capt. Henry Edw. Napier.
- Also PIQUE 36, Capt. Hon. Anthony Maitland
- 21st February 1816, to the GLASGOW 40, Capt. Hon. Maitland, under whom he fought at Algiers.
- In April 1821 to the command of the IONIA colonial vessel.
- 13th December 1827 and 2nd March 1829 to the INFERNAL bomb, Capts. Edm. Williams Gilbert and Brunswick Popham.
- MADAGASCAR 46, Capt. Hon. Sir Robert Cavendish Spencer, both on the Mediterranean station.
- For a short time in 1832 to the VERNON 50, Capt. Sir Fraser Augustus Collier, fitting at Woolwich.
- Finally 5th March 1836, to the command of the PANDORA packet on the Falmouth station.
He was on half-pay from January 1842.
His agents were Goode and Lawrence.
