My thanks to, Ray Duke, for kindly providing both the text and photographs of original documents for this page.

Private John Flynn

John Flynn enlisted on the 2nd of January 1915.  He embarked for for an unknown destination, most likely Gallipoli, on the 24 of September 1915 and was discharged on the 9th of June 1916 in accordance with Para 392 (XVI) of King's Regulations.

The "Cause of discharge" column of the the document "Roll of individuals entitled to the War Badge" gives the cause of discharge as " No longer physically fit ".  He was awarded the SWB numbered 12395.  No age is given.

At the time of his discharge he was serving with the 4th Battalion Connaught Rangers which would have been located in the west of Ireland (their HQ was at Boyle in county Roscommon).

He is shown on the BWM & Victory roll as being entitled to both medals but no indication that the medals were returned or un-issued so they are out there somewhere.
